This wedding. Oh this was such an amazing wedding, one of my favorites really. Everyone thinks when looking at my posts that everything is just perfect on wedding day. The truth is, it was. Even if things do not go exactly as planned, you hired the best professionals who have dealt with most of the scenarios that can put a damper on your plans for a perfect day. I rarely check the forecast on wedding day anymore, what’s the point? We are going to roll with it because let’s face it, the weather plays a major role in your wedding story. When I arrived in Long Island to photograph Liz & Carl’s wedding, it was muggy, stormy, and our phones were all sounding the weather alerts with the message “FLASH FLOOD WARNING”. Liz didn’t seem to mind, she kept her cool and rolled with it. As did I. This is my IDEAL client!
We were supposed to meet the entire wedding party and families at the old post office for photos, followed by their first look in the park behind it. This is where things took a turn…. I left a few minutes before the trolley that was transporting the ladies to the meet the fellas at the post office. Well, that didn’t happen. You see, the post office was struck by lightning just moments before our arrival and it was on fire. Roads were closed, cell service was spotty at best, flooding, lightning, nothing was going right. I stopped in the middle of the road to try to spot the trolley to intercept Liz and the girls and come up with an alternate plan for the first look and portraits. Time was of the essence and we were running out it, quickly. The ceremony at the church was approaching swiftly so I made a decision on the spot that we were ditching the portrait session so that we could still do their first look and calm everyone’s nerves. We all agreed that we would do the formal photos after the ceremony, at the estate where the reception would take place. I have to add that Liz and Carl completely trusted me and and had faith that I could make the impossible very possible. These two were so calm and collected throughout the day, it really helped me keep my creativity flowing and just live in the moment for them to photograph their wedding in the way it should be.
I decided to do the first look on the trolley, which was a bit different and unique, but totally romantic with the foggy windows and rain soaked glass that surrounded them. This is what it’s all about; incorporating the unforeseen into your wedding photographs and embracing the little hang-ups that in the end, tell the real story of your wedding day. There we were, heading to the church for the ceremony, on time, and I have yet to do any formals with the wedding party and both sides of the family. No big deal, I got this I said to myself. The ceremony went off without a hitch and we all headed over to the family estate for our photo session, cocktail hour, and the amazing reception that followed. This location, the details, the people, were all remarkable. The rest of the wedding day was absolutely perfect and I can go on and on, but I’d rather you just take a look and see for yourself. Congratulations Liz and Carl, Your day was perfection and I am so happy to have been your photographer, it made me even better at what I do for my future clients. Enjoy some of my choice images from their wedding day, and thank you to Dorian for always being my solid second shooter and also keeping cool even when it’s 100 degrees.
